Education Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students

Our school was provided with additional funding by the Education Bureau in the 2025/26 school year. With reference to school-based circumstances, we provide tailored support for our NCS students and assign a dedicated teacher/team to coordinate related matters across Chinese language learning, inclusive campus building, and home-school cooperation.

(1) Enhancing Support for Learning Chinese

With reference to the learning progress and needs of NCS students, our school adopts various modes to enhance support for learning Chinese across S1 to S6:

1. In-class Support & Staffing

  • Dedicated Staffing: Appointing 1 additional teacher and 1 teaching assistant (including assistant(s) of different race(s)) to support Chinese learning.
  • Pull-out Learning: Implementing pull-out learning groups for S1-S6 to cater to learning diversity.
  • Split-class / Group Learning: Conducting split-class/group learning for S1-S6 to enhance classroom interaction.
  • Learning Chinese across the Curriculum: Strengthening cross-curricular Chinese vocabulary and comprehension for S1-S6.
  • School-based Curriculum: Adopting a school-based Chinese Language curriculum and/or adapted learning and teaching materials for S1-S6.

2. Extra-curricular & Extended Learning

  • Chinese Learning Groups: Providing after-school and extra-curricular Chinese learning groups for S1-S6.
  • Paired-reading Scheme: Organising paired-reading activities for S1-S6 to foster reading habits.
  • Peer Cooperative Learning: Promoting peer interaction between Chinese-speaking and non-Chinese speaking students across S1-S6.
  • After-school Supplementary Lessons: Offering after-school supplementary lessons to consolidate foundation learning.

(2) Creating an Inclusive Campus

Our school is committed to promoting multicultural integration, helping NCS students build a sense of belonging and foster deep friendships with their local peers:

  • Cultural Integration Activities:
    • Translating major announcements and important matters on the school website.
    • Organising large-scale school activities such as Music Gathering and inviting NCS students to perform traditional dance and Cantopop.
  • Peer Interaction & Community Engagement:
    • Engaging NCS students in uniform groups and school teams such as Girl Scouts, Prefect Team, Peer Counselor Team, sports teams, and music groups.
    • Organising field trips to local historical sites, such as Kowloon Walled City Park, with Chinese-speaking peers to learn about local history and culture.

(3) Home-School Cooperation

We attach great importance to close communication with parents of NCS students to foster student growth:

  • Accessible Information: Interpreting/Translating information about school policies, circulars, and website content for parents.
  • Regular Progress Updates: Discussing the learning progress (including Chinese learning) of NCS students with parents on a regular basis, and highlighting the importance of mastering Chinese.
  • Further Studies & Career Guidance: Providing parents and students with guidance and information on school choices, further studies, and career pursuits.
